Jazzpiya

Jazzpiya

Jazzpiya’s music is difficult to place in a single category. The ensemble draws on influences from traditional Kirmanci music while also incorporating elements of new improvised music and modern world-music fusion, creating a sound that had rarely been heard in this form.

The sonic possibilities of the musicians and the many ways of combining orientalised and improvised music are central to the group. While Jazzpiya does not deny the tradition of Kirmanci music, it follows its own path, with concepts, sound images and forms that are hard to capture in words. Alongside traditional Kirmanci sounds, the music is shaped by Western elements such as jazz, reggae and folk. It is music for an audience with curious ears.
