How free are we? This is the question Duisburg-based songwriter Giuseppe Michael Mautone explores in his songs — not from above, but from within the world he observes. In the tradition of German-language songwriters, he avoids easy answers. His stories tell of different ways of seeing the world, of action and escape, of holding on and pushing back.

Mautone’s lyrics seek reconciliation more than accusation. Without glossing over the world, he remains an optimist and writes about what connects us. Musically, he combines romance and groove in a remarkably natural way. Mautone sings his German-language songs, plays guitar and a self-developed foot drum set. André Meisner accompanies him on electric and acoustic bass and adds backing vocals — a grooving duo with an earthy, direct sound.
